Everyone’s favorite blue blitzkrieg is headed to the big screen this Fall. Paramount Pictures released the first trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog, and I have to admit, it looks pretty cool. The movie boasts a pretty stellar cast, and from the looks of it, will contain several throwbacks to the original Sega Genesis game.
In fact, the trailer itself starts with the ever familiar coin noise heard by millions of gamers whenever Sonic picked up a golden ring. From there, the trailer floats to a police cruiser hidden behind a sign advertising the first tie-in to the video game. Most of the action is set to take place in a town called “Green Hills” a homage to the first levels gamers encountered from the game series. Sonic blows by said police cruiser, as the onboard radar detector clocks his speed at a whopping 760 MPH.
As Sonic flies by, this causes a power surge that tips off the government, and of course they want to figure out what caused it. In comes Dr. Robotnik, played by a resurgent Jim Carrey, who makes it known immediately that his character will annoy the hell out of you. The rest of the cast is rounded out by James Marsden (Officer Tom Wachowski), Tika Sumpter (Unannounced role), and Ben Schwartz (Sonic).
