Epic games and Marvel have teamed up to bring an amazing collaboration of talent to bring Thanos from the Avengers: Infinity War to a Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode for a limited time starting Tuesday May 8th. In this crazy mashup one hundred players will drop from the bus and duke it out until one is left standing like typical Battle Royale fashion but this time there will be an Infinity Gauntlet in play! The Infinity Gauntlet will have all 6 gems and the player who finds and equips it will morph into Thanos himself and possess all the powers that come with being the super villain.
Entertainment Weekly got all the juicy details from co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo as well as Donald Mustard the creative director of Epic Games. Who knew the Russos were just as enamored with Fortnite as the rest of us? “Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Joe Russo told EW. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers-Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”
Donald, the creative director of Epic Games was hyped by the idea. Donald explained to EW, “Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas. It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately got started.”
Will the possessor of the Infinity Gaunlet be able to simply snap their fingers and wipe out half the players? Will they be able to control the time, speed, or tempo of the game? So many questions will be answered tomorrow so you won’t want to miss it!
